Proverbs 7:4

Proverbs 7

Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding your intimate friend;
Proverbs 7:4 NASB

Our Prayer: Help us to embrace wisdom and understanding.
Our Prayer: Help us to embrace wisdom and understanding.

We all have tough decisions to face in life. Many of those decisions will require wisdom and understanding. Kinda obvious, right? God analogizes wisdom and understanding to family and friends. Why? I think it is to point out that we may not always want to utilize them, but just like that sister or brother who knows all of our ups and downs (and drives us batty with reminders and teasing), wisdom may be something we want never to call on. We should, however, and we do. She brings something to the decision that absolutely no one else can; she has seen us at our worst and loves us anyway. Likewise with understanding. We call our closest friends; we spend time with them; we share our secrets. They have seen us at our worst and still like us anyway. Wisdom and understanding are our sister and our friend. When we embrace the role they play in our decisions, we can then move forward knowing that we will not be tossed by impulse, lust, greed, etc.

Now, go hug your sister (or brother) and best friend and tell them, “Thank you!”
